Over time, the word gained modern popularity among butchers who would refer to useless pieces of animal gentiles as "cunts" because they had holes in them. A piece of meat with a hole in it also refers to as broad which is much less offensive to a woman. The two words were often used with eachother. Broad was an umbrella term and cunt was a subcategory.
