Troy Thompson is an elected Mayor for the city of Townsville, North Queensland, Australia. Troy won the Townsville Mayoral Election in March 2024 on the back of misinformation and lies he promoted about himself. Troy claimed to have served his country in the Army for 5 years when it was actually less than 3 years as a reservist. He claimed to be part of the Special Forces (SAS) but was only ever a cook. He advertised several university degrees but admitted to never actually completing those degrees. Troy drove a company with a 9 million dollar budget into the ground, but not before paying his ex-wife the sum of $35K and nothing to the workers as one of his last acts within that company.

Whenever Troy would appear, he'd typically introduce himself with the phrase "Hi, I'm Troy McClure" then he would go on to list two films which the viewer (typically one of the Simpson family) might recognise him from (The Erotic Adventures of Hercules, Here Comes the Metric System and Get Confident Stupid are a few examples of these fictitious films)
