Greeting, slang, used most commonly in South Africa (subsequently also the source of the term).

Also used as a question, in order to show emotion as well as to find out information about certain things.

Also spelt "whatkyn", "watkyn" or 'kyn".

Donavan: "What kind gents"
Crowd: "Howsit, what's up?"

Hermanus: "I wrapped that blunt in front of that pig ekse"
Flippie: " 'Ell what kind whitchu ekse? Are you stupid?"

An expression of dismissal in response to an inane, disagreed with, or inaccurate statement or question.

Example 1:

Person 1: They just dissed me because I was wearing green pants. Can you believe it?

Person 2: It is what it is.

Example 2:

Person 1: I can't believe that I have to pay for a bottle of water at this concert! It should be free!

Person 2: It is what it is.
