One of the dirtiest words in the weeaboo lexicon, although not specifically limited to such a community. Every time it shows up (or is believed to show up), expect a lot of bickering. Something that has gone hand-to-hand with censorship as time goes on. One of those things bound to turn self-proclaimed levelheads into leveled heads.

In all seriousness though, localization involves changing things for games, anime, or manga to make it more suitable for a target region, especially in regards to cultural norms. Things like idioms, wordplays, region-specific jokes, and other visual modifications are modified for the target audience. It's one of those things you gotta be real careful with.

The act of localization, especially amongst weebs, is heavily contested if not outright reviled, in comparison to a more literal translation (expect arguments such as creator's intent and the like to show up all the time). When it comes to translations or localizations, either by fans or an official team, anything goes. Just because it's done by a fan or a group of fans doesn't mean it's better and just because it's done by a localization team doesn't make it inferior and vice-versa.

"Localization!? In my gacha game!? This is a sacrilege to the creator's intentions! The localizers absolutely butchered and mangled the game's script. Literally unplayable!"

Local Assemblies and Local Communes

Scaled-up versions of neighborhood systems, encompassing a larger district like a village, town, or city ward. Local Assemblies are the sovereign decision-making bodies for that territory, potentially federating with other assemblies. Local Communes are the implementation of communist or anarchist principles at this scale, where the assembly collectively owns and manages major local resources (housing, utilities, workshops), abolishes private property in favor of usership, and organizes production for local need. They represent a vision of politics as a daily, participatory activity rather than a spectacle every few years.

Example: In a small de-industrialized town, the city council is corrupt and powerless. Citizens form a Local Assembly in the old union hall, open to all residents. It becomes the real governing body. They transition to a Local Commune by taking over a shuttered factory to run it co-operatively, converting empty homes into communal housing based on need, and creating a local currency for trade with other communes. A more granular version of regionalism, focusing on how hyper-local variations in material conditions—a single valley's microclimate, a specific hill's defensibility, a unique local mineral spring—create radically different societal outcomes even within the same broader region. It emphasizes that history is made not on continents, but in parishes, neighborhoods, and watersheds.

Theory of Locality of Material Conditions Example: In medieval Europe, a village built on a rocky hill with a freshwater spring (local material conditions) could become an independent, fortified town. A village a few miles away on a fertile floodplain might become a wealthy but vulnerable estate of a feudal lord. Their divergent political fates were dictated by a few meters of elevation and access to water.
