Marley's Razor

The idea that one's admission to a greater offense is not conclusive evidence of the commission of a lesser offense.

Proposed by Kmele Foster and derived from Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff," in which the narrator admits to shooting the sheriff, but not the deputy.
"I'm looking at the Trump administration's response to the criticism that they're overstating things or that the Iranian strike actually went badly, when it does in fact seem like one of those cases where Marley's Razor applies, and while they may lie with some great regularity, it might be the case that this time, they are more right than wrong, and that the strike was potentially a lot more effective than they thought." Kmele Foster on Tangle podcast, 6/29/25.

marley

Meet Marley, a kid with a quirky sense of humor and an endearing goofiness that masks a deeper struggle within. He navigates life with low self-esteem, often reflected in his self-deprecating humor and a tendency to underestimate his own capabilities. Despite his lighthearted exterior, Marley battles persistent feelings of inadequacy and often fears that others see through his facade.

Trust issues are a significant part of Marley's personality. Past experiences may have left him feeling betrayed or vulnerable, making it difficult for him to fully open up to others. Hesitant to confide in people, he fears that his vulnerabilities will be used against him. Building trust with Marley takes time and patience, as he instinctively keeps a guard up to protect himself from potential emotional harm.

Communication poses another challenge for Marley. Expressing thoughts and feelings can be arduous, leading to misunderstandings and a sense of isolation. He might use humor as a defense mechanism, deflecting serious conversations with jokes or sarcasm. This difficulty in communication contributes to his trust issues, as he may have experienced misunderstandings or felt unheard in the past.

In relationships, Marley craves connection but finds it hard to establish and maintain it.

Helping Marley improve his communication skills and working together to foster a sense of trust can be instrumental in helping him navigate the complexities of relationships and personal connections.
