If I am not continually or continuously performing a task, my ability to perform said task diminishes over time. Consider a knife. If you use a knife the blade dulls and it, therefore, needs to be sharpened. But AS you use the knife your ability to use the knife increases over time. If you stop using knife for an extended period of time, it will develop rust and dull as the natural and your ability to USE the knife will also diminish.
