Short for "Butt Measurement System". Used to describe the amount of space in a walkway as a function of the number of butts that could fit across the space. Typically used when referring to the distance between a perimeter countertop and an island countertop in a kitchen. A kitchen walkway should have a 2-butt minimum, but 3-butt is ideal.
