A bronze medalist can refer to a person who is not viewed as the best option or even the second best, by the individual the person is trying so hard to win over or strive to do right by. It is essentially the feeling of not being good enough to win the one you want so badly.

I'm an option but not a good enough one to be considered, just a comfort pillow to them. I feel like I'm just some Bronze Medalist.
