Most games that use a hitbox are single server/single multiserver games. (Not client-based)
All though all games have one (a hit box) to combine their player models and more, they only become an active part of the model when in a game that takes damage.

When a hitbox touches a hurtbox, the result is an attack successfully landing. Hitboxes are typically hidden in-game and oftentimes do not line up 1:1 with the corresponding attack's animation.
