It did have a degree of intellectual development back during the space race creating small hubs of intelligent people. It is often equated in dictionaries that most Alabamians have the intelligence of a dog but that has been rescinded as insulting to dogs and surmounts to animal abuse. But the fact remains that since most Alabamians can't even equate their base line cognitive functions to animals that many must be given a test in order to marry outside of their state line otherwise consummation would legally be equivalent to beastiality. This is yet another reason why most senators from the south think rape and incest shouldn't be outlawed or stand as grounds for abortion since they consider it the primary form of reproduction (ex Steven King republican politician )
