When a large portion of a Video Game's fanbase consists of teenagers who make the game their entire personality despite only watching a few cutscenes and seeing a lot of memes.

I miss when DMC5 wasn't just a game known for memes, the game's been suffering through Jetstream Syndrome a lot recently.

Ethel Syndrome

Slang for an ailment caused by missing someone, or “simping for someone”, most likely called Ethel. The reason the name “Ethel” was picked was because it originated from an elderly man who had strong feelings for his partner (named Ethel). Ethel Syndrome can be used interchangeably with the popular internet slang “simp”.

I like this girl so much, I must have a case of Ethel Syndrome.

Being unable to be the main character in your life, always looking for someone to fill the void.
It defines a person so insecure that they actually look for leaving in the shadow of their best friend that they have chosen.
Eventually they will adopt the personality of their best friend to be liked in social settings.

Gretchen in Mean Girl that would do anything to look like and be liked by Regina. And at the moment she is no longer popular, she switched to Cady. She has the sidekick syndrome, incapable of being her own person.
