1. A party district leader in Nazi Germany who also was a provincial governor. 2. One who is likened to a gauleiter, especially someone who is dictatorial, overbearing, or intolerent of dissent or opposing views.

From the German words gau, meaning district, and leiter, meaning leader.

There are some leaders in a organization who are regular gauleiters.
