Mask Mania

When people blindly or religiously follow the directives of the authorities to wear a face mask at all times, as two barriers are debatably better than one—the sick person wears one, and the well person also wears one to protect themselves and others regardless of where they are in public at any time of the day, and whether they are alone or not.
Are these examples of mask mania? Cab drivers sitting in car by themselves wearing masks. People walking their dogs outdoors wearing masks, and nobody near them. People wearing masks at home, because they want to protect their pets.

Covid Trump

The name a Trump “patriot” had given his baby to remind him that his illegitimate son was born on the day he nearly lost his life, when he took part in the January 6 insurrection to unsuccessfully help the ex-president be re-elected undemocratically.
Diehard Trumpists or alt-right white supremacists would show unwavering loyalty to their Insurrectionist-in-Chief, and christening their newborn “Covid Trump” is one such faithful act of allegiance to the “anointed” one.

Maskepreneur

A fly-by-night opportunist who imports cheap face masks from China, most of which probably don’t meet the safety health standards for public use, to repackage and resell them to both developed and developing countries, or to offer them online at a wallet-unfriendly price.
In the aftermath of the shortage of face masks in so many parts of the world, maskepreneurs have sprung up overnight to meet the demands of millions of unvaccinated people, who want to mask themselves until they receive their jab.

Covid-𝛿

Read as “Covid-delta.” Also known as the B.1.617.2 or “Delta” variant. The Indian variant, which is responsible for the second, third, or fourth wave now sweeping many countries, carries 2.61 times the risk of hospitalization within 14 days compared to the UK’s “Alpha” variant.
A recent study shows that 73% of Covid-𝛿 cases are in unvaccinated people, compared to only 3.7% in people who have been fully jabbed, which suggests that it pays to be inoculated to avoid being infected or reinfected.

Psalm 1

The book in the Bible that emphasizes the true blessing for God’s children: those who mingle with sinners or mockers of God will not be together with the righteous but instead perish; however, those who meditate day and night on God’s word will be blessed, for they will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which bears fruit in season and whose leaf never withers—whatever they do will be successful.
Psalm 1 lays out the results of the paths chosen by those who want to please God and those who do not respect Him: God takes care of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will lead them to a bad end.

Voodoo Math

Also known as “Haiti Math”—voodoo is an unofficial religion practiced in Haiti. Math word problems that use zombies or monsters as their characters to teach dark problem solving.
An example of a grade two voodoo math question is: “The line graph shows the weekly number of zombies that were caught by the police during the six-week nationwide lockdown. Use the diagram to answer the following questions.

a) How many more zombies were caught in April than in May?
b) If the zombies were able to bite a victim before they were caught, what is the least number of zombie bites that took place during the entire lockdown?”
